Sleep is a complicated “activity” and there is never a simple solution that works for everyone.
But one possible approach for those waking up in the night is called “The clench & release technique.”
- Focus on your toes, curl them up as tight as you can, feel the tension in your foot and calf.
- Now release and relax, feel the change as the tension releases.
- Tense your calves, pushing into the bed. Again, feel the tension and then the release.
Work up your legs, thighs, buttocks, stomach, hands, arms, shoulders, neck and face; first tensing then focusing on the feeling of relaxation in the body.
Clench and release each part in turn, focus on the feeling of relaxation in the body. Focus on this relaxation.
