SeaFit

SwissPhysio are now working with the Seafarers Hospital Society and able to provide sessions of FREE physiotherapy to all commercial Fishermen and Seafarers and members of the RNLI lifeboat crew.

The SeaFit brand is now established and recognised in many fishing ports around the UK. Evidence from the Programme shows that fishers are more likely to seek help to improve their health and wellbeing when services are taken directly to them at the quayside.

Our physiotherapists are trained to provide preventative treatment and exercises. These are a vital means to help avoid injury caused by the physical demands and repetitive nature of work as a merchant seafarer or fisher. Repetitive strain injuries, and musculoskeletal issues, often caused by heavy lifting, are common long-term health issues reported by seafarers. Furthermore, life at sea can make it difficult to access treatment or keep up with regular appointments. As part of the SeaFit programme we are aiming to create the possibility for hardworking seafarers to attend appointments more easily

All treatment costs are covered by the Seafarers Hospital Society. The SeaFit Programme is a joint initiative from the Seafarers Hospital Society and the Fishermen’s Mission working in partnership to deliver sustainable improvements in the health and wellbeing of fisherman and their families around the UK.
