Oedema
Oedema is the result of an excessive amount of watery fluid accumulated in the intercellular spaces, most commonly present in subcutaneous tissue. Skin gradually becomes puffy and swollen as the fluid is not taken up by the venous and lymphatic systems. Untreated, the limb(s) can become enlarged and eventually skin changes can occur.
Lymphoedema and Lipodema are medical conditions that require a specific treatment protocol and as such require a confirmation of a medical diagnose before any form of treatment can begin.
Other types of oedema can form for a variety of reasons. For example bruising is a form of oedema that is a result of trauma or injury to the body. Oedemas can also be created by some sorts of failures in the body’s organs such as the heart or kidneys. Not all types of odemas are suitable for Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy and in some cases it can make a condition worse – this is why a correct medical diagnosis of your condition is important.
