Achilles tendonopathies

Achilles tendonitis is the inflammation of the tendon of the big calf muscles. It can also include the point of attachment of the tendon to the heel bone (calcaneus). This can be perceived like a localised tenderness of the heel.

Incorrect training and overload can inflame the Achilles tendon and surrounding structures. Too many training sessions aimed to increase the muscle strength, or endurance, without allowing the tendon structure time to properly adapt, can cause a tendonitis. Also poor technique or footwear can lead to incorrect movements and to an inflammation.

Physiotherapy can help to reduce the tension on the tendon and rebalance the strength.
