Osteopath (BSc Hons Ost Med)

Hannah McDonald graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001. Hannah believes in supporting the body to optimal health and healing through osteopathy. She also believes in supporting people to feel empowered about their own health choices relating to physical activity, nutrition, and lifestyle.

Osteopathy 

Osteopathy works with the structure and function of the body. It is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together. Osteopaths use physical manipulation, stretching and massage to:

  • increase joint mobility,
  • relieve muscle tension,
  • enhance the blood and nerve supply,
  • and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms

Hannah McDonald philosophy

I take a systems perspective on health and well-being. My understanding is that health and well-being are outcomes of our ‘health system’. I believe that as human beings we are complex and that there are many factors that interact to influence our ‘health system’.

These factors include;

  • what we put into our bodies (nutrition),
  • how we interact with people around us (our relationships),
  • our emotions and stressors
  • our sleep patterns,
  • how our physical body is functioning (and more).

The nature of these factors and the manner in which they interact create the conditions of our system. If the conditions are not optimal the outcome of our system may be poor health; for example increased pain levels or increased risk of the back “going”.

Hannah McDonald approach

As practitioner with 20 years’ experience, I use many techniques to support you to improve the conditions of your ‘health system’. The outcome I aim for: a better health for you.

I use hands-on techniques and exercise advice to help you move well. I also use health coaching techniques to support you to make life style and behaviour changes.This will, in turn, positively affect the conditions of your ‘health system’. Most importantly, I will work with you, using the techniques that best suit you, to achieve your health goals –

  • recovery from injury,
  • pain reduction,
  • managing long term musculoskeletal conditions
  • or just generally moving better.
