Fascia or Connective Tissue is the structure that connects all other tissues in the body, like a gigantic 3D spider web. It has many functions, from creating the shape of organs to being involved in different communication systems in the body. This it does through the transmission of mechanical stress. When a structure such as a joint or muscle is damaged or injured its surrounding fascia will be affected. This relationship also works the other way when damage to the fascial system, for example through scarring after an operation or trauma will affect other tissues it supports.
Here, in Tynemouth, Swissphysio has developed a specialism in assessing and working with Fascia. Our treatments will invariably involve some work of input to this fascinating tissue.
