Art and Health Exhibition

Art & Health An exhibition at SWISSPHYSIO to underline the connection between the Arts and Physical Well-being

Hello, I would like to invite you to The “Mind and Body” exhibition at SWISSPHYSIO ‘s premises in Tynemouth Station this Saturday 19th March and Sunday 20st March 2016 to underline the connection between the Arts and Physical Well-being.

A new amateur artist will be making waves with her first solo exhibition of paintings in a free exhibition.

Hil Mather, who specialises in painting seascapes and skies from her beloved Longsands beach in Tynemouth; follows a long tradition of artists such as John Falconer Slater and Victor Noble Rainbird, who were inspired by the beautiful North East coastline. In a style known as “free painting”, Hilary works from photographs directly onto the canvas in water based oils or acrylics without sketches to produce realistic and evocative images of the coastline near her home.

When I was asked about opening my treatment space for an exhibition, I felt it was the perfect opportunity show how art can be integrated holistically in a clinical environment.

Since I started my clinic 13 years ago I always had paintings (mainly of the Swiss artist of Hans Werner) in the reception area and in my treatment room.

The calming effect of art on the mind and body are well documented. Looking at a beautiful piece of art has long been said to have the power to heal emotional wounds but new research also claims it offers a distraction to physical pain. When we see an emotion in art, we connect with it. If this emotion is a positive one, we feel better.

The “Mind and Body” exhibition will take place between  2.00pm-4.00pm on Saturday 19 March and 11.00am-3.30pm on Sunday 20 March.

Entrance is free and original acrylics Prints and Cards will be available for sale.

For further information contact Swissphysio on 0191 296 0567 or see HilMatherArt.co.uk

On Saturday there will be an open day “taster session” with a team of complementary therapists on hand. The visitors will have the opportunity to try relaxing treatments or ask for advices on the Swissphysio facilities including, relaxing or invigorating massage, reflexology, acupuncture, counselling etc. in addition to being able to visit the Art Exhibition on the ground floor.

Hope to see you soon.
